ITINERARY AT A GLANCE

Day 1: Arrive in Lima, Peru

Welcome to Lima! Upon arrival in Lima’s airport you will be privately transferred to your hotel.

Day 2: Lima to Cusco | Exploring Cusco & Sacsayhuaman

In the afternoon you will visit the Cathedral on the Plaza de Armas, dubbed as one of the most beautiful churches in the Americas. Its construction was influenced by the great Spanish cathedrals of the area, reflecting Gothic, Renaissance and baroque styles. Then you will visit the beautiful church of Santo Domingo, a 16th century Dominican church and convent built upon the foundations of the Koricancha, or the ‘place of gold. After seeing the sights of the ancient city, you will continue to the ruins of Sacsayhuaman, true testimony to Incan architectural skills. Compiled of massive stones (one weighs 125 tons!) you are challenged to try to slip a piece of paper through the cracks in between these blocks, cut and fitted together with incredible precision without a single drop of mortar to hold them in place.

Day 3: Sacred Valley | Ruins of Pisac, Local Markets, & The Fortress of Ollantaytambo

You will explore the ruins of Pisac. Here, you will see some fantastic Inca remains, including ritual baths fed by aqueducts and one of the largest known Inca cemeteries. The precision with which the relatively small stones in this site must have been cut is astonishing: in fact it has been said that in some respects the stonemasonry here is even more awesome than that of the more famous ruins in Machu Picchu. Finally, you will visit the local village of Pisac, famous for its bustling, colorful market which attracts tourists from all over the world to try their hand at bartering for local sweaters, ponchos, wall hangings, jewelry and goods.

Enjoy a delicious lunch in a local restaurant. After lunch, continue on to the massive fortress of Ollantaytambo. The fortress, a formidable stone structure that climbs massive terraces reaching the top of a high peak, was the valley’s main defense against the Antis and was the site of the Incas’ greatest victory against the Spanish during the wars of conquest. Constructed of rose-colored granite, this huge installation was once a thriving complex of baths, temples and military barracks.

Day 4: Machu Picchu |  The Lost City of The Incas

This morning, you will be transferred to the train station to board the Vistadome Train Service. On arrival you will be transported -25-minutes by bus – to the ruins of Machu Picchu to explore this famous “Lost City of the Incas”. Accompanied by your guide, explore the city’s ruins, and feel its pulse as you visualize the lives of the priests, craftsmen, and servants who inhabited this seemingly uninhabitable citadel.

Excavations at the site have revealed skeletons, artefacts and woollen clothing, but no gold. The same precision of assembled stones exists here as in other Incan sites. Overlooking the raging Urubamba River and discovered in a hidden trees atop the mountain, the city of Machu Picchu will forever hold its secret of its destruction – the Incas left no written record. Enjoy a Buffet Lunch at Belmond Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge. In the afternoon bus down to Aguas Calientes and board your Vistadome train to Poroy rail station. Reception and transfer to the hotel in Cusco.

Day 5: Lima | Day At Leisure

This morning after breakfast, you will be transferred to Cusco Airport for your flight back to Lima.On arrival at Lima International Airport, you will be met and transferred to the hotel for an afternoon at leisure.
